General Information:
The Ausangate trek offers you a real adventure and an unforgettable experience, this is the most challenging and incredible trek that is offered in the Cusco region, this trek is aimed for true nature lovers where you can observe a great variety of flora and fauna at every point of our trek.
The beautiful scenery is very impressive: snowy peaks of white snow and bright blue and green lagoons are just some of the spots that will take your breath away.
These treks are full day (8-10 hours), mountainous and steep terrain (up or down from 3600masl to 5200masl). In this category are trips with treks at average altitudes of 6000 meters above sea level.
DAY 1 / CUSCO – OCONGATE – TINKI-UPIS.
We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am heading to the South East of Cusco city, on the way we can pass by the ruins of Pikillaqta and the colonial villages of Andahuaylillas and Huaro, lunch will be in Urcos, then the trip begins to an uphill until you reach small villages, the beautiful trail begins to cross the highland puna approaching the impressive Ausangate with breathtaking views and imposing rolling landscapes.
Camping and dinner in Upis with the possibility to enjoy the thermal baths.
DAY 2 / UPIS – PUCACOCHA – AUSANGATE LAGOON.
At the beginning of this challenge we will climb the pass at 4,500 m.a.s.l. and head to the Pucacocha lagoon for lunch with the impressive ice fall of the Ausangate mountain dominating the view from this camp. After our delicious lunch we head towards Apacheta passing 4700 m.a.s.l. and then descend to the beautiful Ausangate Lake. From tonight’s camp you can appreciate why Ausangate has inspired for many years the ancient human groups that occupied the Cusco region.
DAY 3 / PUCACOCHA – PALOMANI-FINAYA (SORAYCUCHO).
To begin the third day, we cross the highest pass of our trip at Palomani (4,800mts), with a spectacular view of the southeast ridge of Mount Ausangate. Camp in Soraycucho.
DAY 4 / SORAY CUCHO – PACCHANTA-CUSCO.
On the last day we turn northwest over the lagoon of Ticllacocha and over the last pass 4,650m, reaching the small meadow of Pacchaspata, or the shores of Lake Q’omer Qocha for an energetic lunch. On the route we can observe the flora and fauna such as: deep valleys, alpacas, llamas and vicuñas that are kept in their original natural environment and have that connection with the Pachamama, the beautiful trail descends to the village of Pacchanta, where we can enjoy the thermal baths again. After a delicious lunch we return to Cusco.
